IKEA PAX Wardrobe Assembly
The UK's most flexible wardrobe system — built correctly, first time, since 2004.
Typical cost: £120–£400 depending on configuration
The PAX System — What We Build
IKEA's PAX wardrobe is the most flexible flat pack wardrobe system on the market. When built correctly it is as good as — or better than — anything costing four or five times the price. We have been building every PAX configuration since 2004.
The system is modular: frames come in three heights, three widths, and two depths. You can have no doors, hinged doors, or sliding doors, combined with any KOMPLEMENT interior fittings. The possibilities are almost endless — which is exactly why you want an assembler who knows every combination, every limitation, and every gotcha.
PAX Frames
Depth: 58cm (standard) or 35cm (shallow — must always be wall-fixed; takes special KOMPLEMENT fittings only).
Width: 50cm, 75cm, or 100cm — combine any widths to create any total width from 50cm upwards.
Height: 201cm or 236cm. Corner units available in two styles — more difficult to level as they must be aligned in two planes.
Door Systems
No doors: Frame only — simplest configuration.
Hinged doors: All styles. Handles always sold separately and must be drilled. Corner wardrobe hinges are different — no handle fitted.
Sliding doors: Three types — single-piece, Havsik two-piece (10 mins to connect), and Auli panelled (1 hour per pair to assemble). Minimum 2cm ceiling clearance required.
KOMPLEMENT Fittings
Hanging rails and wooden shelves are included with the frame at no extra time. All other fittings add to the job time: trays, glass shelves, baskets, trouser rails, some shoe racks (+5 mins each); KOMPLEMENT drawers and some shoe racks (+10 mins each); light fittings (+15 mins per light); pigeon hole storage unit (+20 mins).
Wall-Fixing
35cm-depth frames must always be wall-fixed. Tall 236cm frames should be fixed in most cases. Vikdel mirrored doors on smaller systems require wall-fixing. Soft-close devices often require wall-fixing. We fix to brick, block, and stud walls.
All our assemblers are trained to British Standards for attaching furniture to the wall — via flatpack.org.uk.
How IKEA Sells PAX
Off-the-shelf combinations: One part number, one price — send us the part number or link for an instant quote.
Store or catalogue designs: Send us your full receipt or shopping cart — we look up every item.
Your own design: Send us your IKEA planner printout or a sketch of how it should go together.
Ceiling Height Check
For 236cm high wardrobes, you need a ceiling height of at least 244cm to assemble them lying down. If you have less than this, we build them standing up — it takes only 5 minutes longer and does not affect the price. You still need 1cm clearance for hinged doors and 2–3cm for sliding doors.
PAX Wardrobe Guides
We have dedicated pages for each door type and a buying guide to help you plan your purchase correctly before you order. Read these before you buy — they could save you a costly mistake.
PAX Sliding Door Wardrobes

We ask that someone is home throughout. For PAX wardrobes we often need to check door alignment preferences and wall-fixing decisions with you before we proceed.
