What We Assemble

The IKEA BESTÅ system is a modular storage and TV system available in a wide range of finishes, door styles, and configurations. Unlike PAX, BESTÅ is designed primarily for living rooms and hallways — combining floor-standing base units, wall-mounted cabinets, and open shelving into a single coherent system.

TV Bench & Base Units

Floor-standing BESTÅ frames with doors, drawers, and push-open mechanisms. Single and combined units up to 360cm wide.

Wall-Mounted Cabinets

Upper wall units hung on the BESTÅ rail system or individual wall brackets. Requires careful wall preparation and level alignment.

Combined TV Systems

Floor units combined with wall-mounted upper cabinets — the full BESTÅ TV wall. Requires planning for cable routing and TV bracket positioning.

Framsta & Inreda Parts

Internal fittings including Inreda drawers, cable management, glass shelves, and the Framsta glass door inserts. Each adds assembly time.

Hallway & Storage Systems

BESTÅ used as hallway storage with coat hooks, shoe storage, and combination units. Often involves wall-fixing for stability.

Bespoke Combinations

IKEA sell BESTÅ in packages and individually. Whatever combination you have ordered, we can assemble it — send us your full receipt for an accurate quote.

Typical BESTÅ Jobs & Assembly Times

BESTÅ assembly time depends primarily on the number of units, whether they are wall-mounted, and the number of Inreda internal fittings. Here are typical examples:

What You Need to Know Before We Arrive

BESTÅ is less complex than PAX but has its own specific challenges. These are the issues we encounter most frequently:

Skirting Boards

BESTÅ was designed in Sweden, where skirting boards are uncommon. The base units sit flush to the floor and will be blocked by standard UK skirting boards.

Your options are: purchase the BESTÅ feet (which add 11cm height — check this clears your skirting), remove the skirting behind the units, accept that some units will sit further from the wall than others, or mount everything on the wall above the skirting.

Uneven Walls

Wall-mounted BESTÅ units require a reasonably flat wall. If your wall is significantly uneven, perfect alignment may not be achievable and the job will take longer. Please let us know if you have any concerns about your wall before booking.

Do Not Cut BESTÅ Units

BESTÅ frames are constructed from a structural frame coated in hardboard panels. If you cut them — even to route around a pipe, duct, or trunking — the unit will be dramatically weakened and structurally compromised. Do not assume they can be trimmed to fit.

Shelves Are Usually Included

Each BESTÅ unit comes with one or more shelves. These are usually sufficient for most configurations. Check your order carefully before purchasing additional shelves — you may already have what you need.

Wall Fixings & Batons

The standard wall fixings supplied by IKEA are not always sufficient for a neat, level result — particularly on plastered walls. We mount wall units using wooden batons for greater accuracy and stability, or you can purchase the BESTÅ rail system for a cleaner finish.

Cable Routing for TV Systems

For TV systems with Hi-Fi, speakers, or multiple devices, please plan your cable routing before assembly day. We will do our best to accommodate your setup, but we need to know what equipment you have and where cables need to run. We do not supply cable trunking or drill through walls for cables.

All our assemblers are trained to British Standards for attaching furniture to the wall — via flatpack.org.uk.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes — this is essential for pricing. Wall-mounted units require additional time for wall preparation, fixing, and levelling. Please tell us how many cabinets will be hung on the wall when you request your quote.

This is a very common issue with BESTÅ in UK homes. Your options are: purchase the BESTÅ feet (11cm height addition — check this clears your skirting), remove the skirting behind the units, or mount everything on the wall above the skirting. We can advise on the best approach when we see your space, but please think about this before assembly day.

We do not drill through walls for cable routing or supply cable trunking. We will do our best to manage cables neatly within the BESTÅ system, but please plan your AV setup in advance and have all cables ready before we arrive.

Yes — this is the easiest way. Copy and paste your IKEA online order confirmation into the quote form, or photograph your receipt and email it to us after submitting the form. Include a note about how many units will be wall-mounted.

Yes. Framsta glass door inserts and Inreda internal fittings (drawers, cable management, glass shelves) are all included in our service. Each fitting adds assembly time, which is reflected in the quote.

We use wooden batons to mount wall units for greater accuracy on uneven walls. If your wall is severely uneven, perfect alignment may not be achievable. Please let us know before booking so we can advise appropriately.
